I have to admit I always loved the back to school hustle and bustle. Personally, I feel that September is the start of a new year for me. I love fresh starts, new day planners, calendars, stationary and brand new pens.
Regardless of how I feel about back to school, this is a very important and yet stressful time for a lot of families. There are so many uncertainties that accompany the new school year. Children have tendency worry about; who their teacher will be, who their classmates will be, will they be able to handle the work load.
It is imperative, to focus on the positives about this new school year. This is a great opportunity for you to discuss any areas of concerns that your children may have. It is important to acknowledge your child’s stressors, and come up with a plan of action to reassure your child. Reminding your children about all the fun activities they will be participating in this coming school year, is always a great way of offering reassurance.
Purchasing NEW school supplies and clothing together is a great way to get your child excited about the up and coming school year. This allows your children to practice having freedom of choice and it allows you to remain within your back to school budget.
It is also important to practice your school routine. This includes deciding upon a set bedtime and wake up time, that allows your child to feel refreshed in the morning. Teach your children to get their belongings ready the night before, to cut down on the morning rush. For you as a parent, make all household lunches right after dinner and make this part of your routine. There is no point in cleaning up the kitchen twice, right?
Good luck to you all and enjoy your last week of summer vacation!
